Self-titled new album out on December 1st!
During the pandemic, the forced time off, the weight of Madrid’s cement, and the light pollution led David Muñoz, keyboardist in the death doom band Sun Of The Dying and also a member of the melodic metal band Arwen, to begin shaping something that had been in his head for a long time: the creation of an extreme metal album without any kind of stylistic ties, in which he would include black, death, doom, post-metal, and some Castilian folklore.
This is how Yermo was born, whose eponymous debut album was recorded little by little through six elegant and melancholic songs that grew organically, in the studio, throughout 2022. Encouragingly and movingly, it now finally comes to us in digital and CD format thanks to Negre planY, Negra Nit’s sub-label dedicated to slow and heavy sounds.
As he himself tells us, “Yermo is born from the fields of Castile, from its empty plains and from a history as rich as it is distant in time. From childhood memories and nostalgia for what has been lost”, and interspersed with Spanish and English, he has counted on the collaboration of vocalists Héctor del Villar (ex-José Rubio’s Nova Era) on ‘Cuando Éramos Esclavos’ and Eduardo Guilló (Sun Of The Dying, Crusade Of Bards) on ‘Vyšehrad’.
Yermo is an album with a markedly romantic tone in the artistic sense of the term, with David rising like Lord Byron of the most contemplative and rural Spain, that manages to convey an unusual spiritual peace. And the fact is that, setting to music texts inspired by elemental authors such as Miguel Delibes or Antonio Machado, you won’t believe that this musician has been able to create, all by himself, such delicate, uplifting, and distinguished symphony.
