Debut album, “The Weight Of Fear”, out on October 9th!
Irish metal outfit PRAELIUM brings together nu-metal, metalcore and groove metal in a record that refuses to stay inside conventional boundaries.
Limerick metal band, Praelium have announced the release of their debut album, “The Weight of Fear”, arriving October 9th following 18 months of building a reputation as one of the city’s most energetic emerging heavy acts. The four-piece have spent the past year and a half taking their music across Ireland, developing a reputation for intense live performances and an unusually close relationship with their audiences. With their debut EP release “PIGS’ in 2025, Praelium are introducing a wider audience to the sound and ideas behind the band with their first full length album.
“The Weight of Fear” brings together elements of nu-metal, metalcore and groove metal, drawing influence from Norma Jean, Zao, Pantera, Korn, System of a Down and Limp Bizkit. Dissonant guitar work, unconventional chords and a strong emphasis on groove provide the foundation, while the band allow themselves plenty of room to move outside the traditional boundaries of those genres.
The album’s title points towards its more personal side with the band commenting; “The Weight of Fear explores anxiety, mental health struggles and addiction, drawing on personal experiences and the challenge of confronting difficult emotions without allowing them to become overwhelming”.
Rather than treating those subjects with distance, Praelium approach them with a directness that gives the record an emotional core beneath its aggressive sound. That seriousness exists alongside a deliberately irreverent side to the band. Humour and absurdity are woven into Praelium’s identity, allowing deeply personal themes to sit comfortably alongside a sense of playfulness and unpredictability. The result is a debut that reflects the band’s broader approach to heavy music: groove-driven, uncompromising and willing to take risks without losing sight of the impact of a great riff.
For Praelium, the album also represents an attempt to translate the energy of their live performances into a recorded setting — capturing the intensity that has helped establish them across the Irish scene while giving listeners a deeper look at what drives the band.
