Debut album, “Summoning Eternity”, out on November 4th!
Mists is a new Belgian/American project among the trio of H. (Oerheks, Silver Knife, Häxenzijrkell…), C.V.B. (Aerdryk, Erbeet Azhak, Wolvennest…) and S.G. (Vox Clamantis, Dashuyn…). Together, they set out to create an eerie path through broken tombstones and forgotten crypts.
The trio’s first public work, Summoning Eternity comprises two epic-length tracks for a total of 39 stultifying minutes. Slow and brooding at first, flowing into a mad frenzy towards death, and wisping & winding through an alternately impenetrable / ethereal fog of atmosphere and hysteria, Mists indeed accomplish their debut album’s namesake. With some strange alchemical magick, the band weave a richly hypnotic tapestry that’s both stridently black metal and residing simultaneously above and below it – vaporous Mists on high, inky depths where no life dwells. And for all its shifts into spiraling violence – internal rather than external, as it were – Summoning Eternity retains a shimmering melodicism that evokes a sense of wonder, guiding the listener on a spectral journey through eternal graves and ancient carved miseries. Blaeks’ artwork completes the totality in stark & stunning fashion.
