New album, “Archees Legeones (Ancient Legions)”, out on May 9th!
Legendary Greek black metal force LLOTH has returned with a devastating new chapter in their storied career, unveiling their latest album ARCHEES LEGEONES (ANCIENT LEGIONS), available now worldwide through Theogonia Records. The band has recently been featured by Bravewords.com, showcasing their striking new video for “Black Throne,” a standout track from this highly anticipated release.
Founded in 1995 by the iconic Tristessa, a pioneering figure in the Greek metal scene and the founder of Astarte—the first all-female black metal band—LLOTH quickly became a beacon of unholy darkness and relentless artistry. After a period of dormancy following Tristessa’s tragic passing, the band reformed under the leadership of her husband, Nicolas Maiis (Melanomorfos), committing to carry forward her legacy through uncompromising black metal. Their previous album, Athanati (Immortal), was a monumental tribute to Tristessa, and now, ARCHEES LEGEONES (ANCIENT LEGIONS) pushes LLOTH into new territory. This album blends thunderous riffs, soul-searing vocals, and epic storytelling into a full-throttle sonic assault, recorded, mixed, and mastered at the acclaimed Pentagram Studio under the guidance of George Emmanuel (Lucifer’s Child, ex-Rotting Christ). The album is a visceral journey through ancient battles, Hellenic pride, and eternal resistance, with darkly evocative, hand-painted artwork by Mars Triumph that underscores its themes of blackened chaos and emotional depth.
Having shared stages with black metal titans such as Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, and Hate, LLOTH continues to honor Tristessa’s vision by organizing charity festivals in her name, solidifying their place in black metal history. ARCHEES LEGEONES (ANCIENT LEGIONS) is a testament to their relentless spirit and commitment to the genre.
