New album, “Lorem Ipsum”, out on November 22nd!
Koltbach presents his new electronica album, which delights with an impressive selection of exciting features. The tracks move between uplifting, dreamy and spacy sounds that take the listener on a fascinating journey through different sound worlds.
With collaborations between various artists like Aparde, YėY and Johannes Motschmann as well as unique musical influences, Koltbach once again demonstrates his talent for creating profound yet captivating music. A must for all fans of atmospheric electronica!
It all started with a coincidence: a name mix-up on Spotify led to a collaboration partner being incorrectly assigned to a previous release by Koltbach. Instead of Andrew Neal from Australia, the track ended up with Andrew Neal from Virginia, USA. Although this initially led to irritation, the communication was surprisingly positive and ended in a ‘not so bad, maybe we can do something together sometime’. That was it for the time being.
At the same time, they were already working on ideas for the next album. In creative collaboration with a graphic designer, the album that would later bear the title ‘Lorem Ipsum’ was created.
For the musician, it is a pretty perfect allegory of today’s zeitgeist (consumer culture, godlessness, fanaticism, radicalism, wars) and a way of perhaps also finding ‘words’ to (finally) express and conclude certain things in his own biography. He refers to experiences from his childhood, such as the death of his father.
Nevertheless, Koltbach could not let go of the confusion of names. He sat down at the piano, improvised and finally found an emotional theme that became the basis for a song about forgiveness. Andrew Neal from Virginia was enthusiastic about the demo and recorded the vocals in a rented studio. The first Koltbach song Takimata was created, accompanied by cello music by Basilius Alawad, which took the album to a new level. And so it somehow became clear: ‘Lorem Ispum’ was going to be bigger (and different) than previously thought.
Inspired by the accidental success of this collaboration, Koltbach decided to actively search for other suitable collaboration partners, regardless of their size or level of recognition. A playlist on Soundcloud with outlined tracks for ‘Lorem Ipsum’ served as an invitation to potential collaborators. Contact with the artists was established via Instagram. The reactions were mixed, but the support of the Spotify algorithm, which suggested similar artists on Koltbach’s own radio, also helped to discover new musicians.
Gradually, more and more artists took part and the collaboration developed into a dynamic and creative journey. Despite some challenges and minor ‘storm damage’ during production, the project ultimately resulted in an exciting and inspiring album that exceeded the original expectations.
