ASSASSIN

"Holy Terror / The Saga Of Nemesis" out on March 12th!

High Roller Records proudly presents the early demo material of ASSASSIN!
Hardcore thrashers insisting that ASSASSIN/s two early demos were superior to the re-recordings of the very same songs that ended up on the band/s debut album "The Upcoming Terror" might have a point. When the first tape "Holy Terror" started to circulate at the beginning of 1986, it not only put Dusseldorf on the map of German extreme metal but was also an instant classic of Teutonic steel because the quintet married instinctive ferocity with an already impressive degree of musicality.
Both demos were carefully restored and remastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony Studio in August 2020 from the original tape source.

 HOLY TERROR - 1985
Hardcore thrashers insisting that Assassin/s two early demos were superior to the re-recordings of the very same songs that ended up on the band/s debut album "The Upcoming Terror" might have a point. When the first tape "Holy Terror" started to circulate at the beginning of 1986, it not only put Dusseldorf on the map of German extreme metal but was also an instant classic of Teutonic steel because the quintet married instinctive ferocity with an already impressive degree of musicality.
Still rough around the edges for all their palpable ambition, the tunes – the catchy title track, band anthem ‘Assassin’ and the surprisingly colourful instrumental ‘ Speed of Light’ amongst them – were recorded in 1985 in Assassin/s rehearsal space with just one microphone. By re-issuing it in 2021 for the first time ever in due original form and not just as a bonus throwaway for some new album edition, Scholli and friends pay homage to an irretrievable era and spirit.

THE SAGA OF NEMESIS - 1986
Considering that "The Saga of Nemesis" came out in April 1986, meaning just about three months after Assassin/s debut demo "Holy Terror", the group had taken a big leap forward – not least regarding its production values, making the four songs plus intro an abrasion-proof set of thrash from a time when the German scene was maturing at a frantic pace.
Getting their first taste of professionalism, Assassin were sure to make each moment of those days count, putting everything they had into the sessions. As it was and is, "The Saga of Nemesis" stands on its own with dignity, comprised of what turned out to be the strongest tracks of "The Upcoming Terror", the five-piece/s time-honoured first full-length from 1987 – the vehement storm ‘Forbidden Reality’ followed by frontman Robert/s peak performance in ‘Holy Terror’ before ‘Nemesis’ highlights Assassin/s melodic side and the re-worked /Speed of Light/ shines again without any word sung or barked.
