New album, “Western Wilderness”, out on October 24th!
Active since 2010, Elepharmers are a stoner/heavy-psych trio from Sardinia, Italy. Their geographical origins have influenced their sound and their imagery: sunny and desolate plains, wild coasts, mysterious prehistoric megaliths, ancient forests. While firmly grounded in the stoner genre, their sonic DNA also draws from metal, thrash, grunge, and hard rock of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s: the trio’s sound is driven by powerful downtuned guitar riffs and drum grooves, bluesy vocals, and a free-sounding lead guitar.
Over the years, the band have released three albums: Weird Tales From the Third Planet (Go Down Records, 2013), Erebus (Go Down Records, 2016), and the concept album Lords of Galaxia (Electric Valley Records, 2019). They have toured across Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, performing at renowned international festivals such as Duna Jam, Elav Stoner Open Air, Maximum Festival, Monolithix Fest, and Electric Valley Festival. Along the way, they’ve shared stages with Karma to Burn, Orange Goblin, Yawning Man, Red Fang, Mars Red Sky, Toner Low, Monkey3, Electric Moon, Wedge, Messa, Giöbia, and many others.
Their spring 2020 European tour was postponed and ultimately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout 2020 and 2021, Elepharmers suspended concert activity but continued to write new stuff, and in 2022 they resumed playing clubs and festivals in conjunction with the pre-production of a new album.
Western Wilderness is the band’s fourth album and their second collaboration with Electric Valley Records. It marks a return to basics compared to the previous concept album Lords of Galaxia, which leaned heavily into space-rock digressions. The new record delivers nine tracks that shift between desert stoner rock and psychedelic episodes. Though not a concept album, an underlying idea spontaneously emerged during its creation, linking the songs both musically and lyrically. Western Wilderness draws inspiration from abandoned mining villages in Sardinia, where wild nature slowly reclaims what humanity took over the centuries, amid silent sand dunes and sunsets over the sea.
