Debut album “Fountain Of Shingle”!
Melquiades is many things, it’s the name of probably thousands of individuals, and is also the name of a band born in 2017, somewhere between Lisbon and Setubal formed by Antonio Agostinho (Heats, Tiago Vilhena), Luis Lucena (Lydia’s Sleep, Medeiros / Lucas, quartoquarto), Joao Abelaira Nascimento (Miss Titan, Pongo, Niki Moss, Sequin, JP Simoes) e Diogo Sousa (Surveillance, Savanna, Moullinex, A Garota Nao).
Post-rock, math and fusion went to the beach and became romantically involved with ethnic and Latin music. References to cartoons and other audiovisual and literary details, dance in environments that range from psychedelic to the simple swing of pop, through music filled with epic moments that cover the entire spectrum of sensations.
They started by winning the Setubal garage band contest and released the first five songs in 2018, part of first EP “Oyster Eggs”, whose single “Freakavoid!” features a video by talented young director Henrique Guerreiro, which received a very positive review in P3. After the release presentation at Sabotage Club with longtime friends Quelle Dead Gazelle, two years followed with several appearances in events and festivals such as MIL, Party Sleep Repeat, Festival Impulso and Festival Paredes de Coura.
Fountain of Shingle, recorded in HAUS Studios by Pedro Ferreira, a sonic take-off that takes their previous work in an inevitable cosmic direction, they also feature in the collection “Novos Talentos Fnac 2021” with first single “Shinra’s Space Exploration Department” and the second “Chasing Dahaka”, released on March.
