New album, “Tanzerloch”, out on September 12th!
BALT HÜTTAR are the folk metal guardians of the ancient Cimbrian heritage, hailing from the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni (Vicenza, Italy). Since their foundation in 2011, the band has set out to preserve and promote the legacy of the Cimbri—an early Germanic people who migrated to Northern Italy in the Middle Ages—through a powerful fusion of heavy riffs, traditional melodies and lyrics sung in Italian, English and the endangered Cimbrian language.
Their very name, Balt Hüttar (“Guardians of the Forest” in Cimbrian), embodies their mission: to keep alive a culture threatened by centuries of wars, migrations and modern homogenization, while making it resonate with today’s audiences. Known for their energetic live shows, they have performed at major festivals such as Malpaga Folk & Metal Fest, Sun Valley Metal Fest, and Irlanda in Festa sharing the stage with Eluveitie, Skyclad, Folkstone and Rotting Christ.
With a strong stage presence and a unique cultural mission, Balt Hüttar stand out as one of the most authentic and vibrant voices in the modern folk metal scene.
“Tanzerloch” is Balt Hüttar’s second full-length album and their most ambitious work to date. Building on the foundations of their debut “Trinkh Met Miar” (2018), this record expands their sound into heavier, more elaborate territories while staying deeply rooted in Cimbrian tradition.
The album unfolds as a historical and conceptual journey through myths, tragedies and celebrations of the Altopiano. From “An Naüjez Lant (A New Land)”, which recounts the Cimbrian migration, to “Il Minatore”, a tribute to the victims of the Marcinelle mining disaster, each track intertwines history, folklore and social reflection. The devastating storm “Vaia” of 2018 is evoked in “Vaia – ʼZ Gadénkhe”, while the title track “Tanzerloch” resurrects a Cimbrian legend of witches and spirits around a vast natural chasm.
Recorded, mixed and mastered by Christian Zecchin, enriched by the illustrations of Fabio Porfidia, the album’s 11 songs is a vortex of metal power, folk melodies and ancient echoes—a true “Dance Sinkhole” where past and present collide.
Musically, “Tanzerloch” blends the festive spirit of folk metal with the epic drive of power metal and the grit of modern metal. Traditional instruments such as accordion, flutes, bagpipes, bouzouki and tagelharpa intertwine with guitars, bass and drums, creating a soundscape that is both earthy and powerful.
For fans of Korpiklaani, Eluveitie and Folkstone, Balt Hüttar offer a sound that is celebratory yet profound, balancing energetic dance rhythms with moments of somber reflection.
