Debut album “A Darkness Of The Ancient Past”, out on September 30th!
Mysterious black metal project Achathras features anonymous musicians from acclaimed and long-running black metal acts. While many newer bands claim to draw upon “true” and “old school” black metal, this often involves recycling the template set by the same three or four early 90s Norwegian acts. With “A Darkness of the Ancient Past”, Achathras instead offer a much broader embrace of those glory years, resurrecting the values of the early to late 1990s European black metal scene, a period when aggressive riffs, atmospheric songwriting, caustic vocals, and otherworldly synth work provided an alternative to the mainstream.
The band’s debut album can be described as epic and, at times, melodic. The songwriting recalls acts such as early Gehenna, Odium, Emperor, Hecate Enthroned, Obtained Enslavement, Taake, Old Man’s Child, Ancient, Dimmu Borgir, Abigor, Covenant, Forefather and Mork Gryning.
