New album, “In Your Gaze”, out on November 7th!
Born and raised on solid hardcore foundations, over time the band has expanded its sonic spectrum, enriching it with new influences and a nostalgic aura that constantly contrasts with their raw, original essence.
“In Your Gaze” marks another step forward in this journey – an album that rejects easy categorization and reflects the courage and honesty with which 217 approach their music.
The new release promises to combine intensity and introspection, keeping hardcore energy as its beating heart while opening up to expressive solutions capable of surprising even their most devoted listeners. It’s a record that seeks to capture the complexity of emotions, shifting between anger and melancholy, showcasing the maturity of a band now ready to leave an even deeper mark on the scene.
217 formed in Pescara in 2018 with the aim of blending old-school hardcore in the vein of bands like Slapshot and Judge with thrash metal influences reminiscent of The Haunted and Slayer.
After a number of live shows, a first European tour, and appearances at national festivals, the band released a debut EP titled “Atheist Agnostic Rationalist” in 2019 through Indelirium Records. The release, featuring songs recorded across multiple sessions, quickly sold out its initial run of 300 copies and circulated widely within the Italian hardcore underground.
In 2020, due to the pandemic, the band was forced to cancel 18 shows scheduled between March and June. The following summer, due to work and family-related issues, three members left the project. However, the band never officially announced a split.
In June 2024, now a four-piece, 217 returned to the rehearsal room to begin writing their debut full-length album. Drawing inspiration from American old-school hardcore (Negative Approach, Uniform Choice, Slapshot, Madball, Bad Brains, Chain of Strength, Growing Concern), mid-’90s new school (108, Have Heart, Snapcase, Abhinanda), as well as math rock, hardcore, and alternative dark rock (Melvins, Botch, Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, Stone Temple Pilots, Killing Joke, The Doors), 217 now presents itself with a renewed and at times dreamlike musical and lyrical identity.
