New album "Legacy" out on February 17th!
Ash and Coal's new album Legacy is a continuation of what was started with the 2013 EP Agnostica. A constant mix of the darker, heavier rock and metal genres. More focus has been placed on songwriting, vocals and arrangements this time.
A pleasant mix of evocative, heavy, melancholic and a bit higher tempo. Always present sources of inspiration are Danzig, Thåström, Nick Cave, Fields of the Nephilim etc., and many bands of death, black, doom, thrash, punk, crust families.
Legacy is recorded and produced by Tom van Heesch in Big Island Sound studios in Stockholm.
The result is an enjoyable soundtrack to dark winter nights.
Ash and coal was formed by Viktor Klint in 2008. Viktor have explored different genres of metal and rock since the beginning of the nineties. Always out of time and moving backwards and forwards trying to find his own musical identity.
It wasn't until 2003/2004 when he released a demo under the name Viktor Klint and the infiltrators that the pieces where coming together and make sense. And with Ash and coal, Viktor took his musical aspirations further.
Ash and coal is formed within a metal framework but make room for different influences and features.
In 2013 Ash and coal released the EP Agnostica in collaboration with Sounds of Zilence. It was released as a digital download and a gatefold vinyl record. Agnostica consist of 6 songs from 2 different recording sessions in 2010/2011.
Ash and coal signed a deal with Vicisolum productions in 2014, and will release a fullength album in the beginning of 2017.
The new record is more to the point, based around the vocals and stripped down to what every song needs. Still, the dark and the doomy groove will always be the foundation.
